An inflatable pipe stopper (also called an inflatable pipe plug, balloon plug or pneumatic stopper) is a reinforced rubber bladder that is placed inside a pipeline and inflated with air until it seals against the pipe wall. It blocks the line temporarily for maintenance, repairs, leak testing or bypass work, and is removed by simply deflating it.
How much back pressure can an inflatable pipe stopper hold?▼
It depends on the model and diameter - each size table states the exact rating. As a rule of thumb Plugline stoppers hold back pressures up to 0.5 bar; for higher line pressures use the HP Pipe Stoppers series. Never exceed the rated inflation or back pressure.
How do I choose the right inflatable pipe plug?▼
You need three things: the internal diameter of the pipe, the back pressure the plug must hold, and the medium in the line. With those, the size tables give you the exact model - or send us an RFQ and our engineers will size it for you within 24 hours.
What sizes do the standard Inflatable Pipe Stoppers cover?▼
The standard series inflates at 1.5-2.5 bar and covers the widest span of the range - from small drains up to large mains, with each model sealing its stated diameter range. The exact model-by-model table is on the product page.
Where are standard inflatable pipe stoppers used?▼
Sewer and stormwater maintenance, pipeline repairs, tightness testing and temporary isolation - in concrete, PVC, steel and clay pipes. Insert, inflate, work, deflate, move to the next section.
What does a Multi-Size Metal Core Bypass Stopper do?▼
It combines two features: one stopper seals a whole range of diameters (multi-size), and its metal core carries a through-pipe (bypass) so flow, air or test water can pass in a controlled way while the line stays sealed. Inflation pressure is 1.5 bar.
When do I need a bypass stopper instead of a blank one?▼
Whenever the line cannot simply be shut: bypass pumping around a repair, air testing a section, or relieving flow during works. If you only need to block the pipe completely, a blank stopper is enough.
What are Inflatable Medium Size Pipe Stoppers for?▼
They cover the mid-diameter band of the range with a 2.5 bar inflation pressure - the common choice for municipal sewer diameters. Compact to transport, with the same reinforced rubber construction as the standard series.
What are Inflatable Small Pipe Stoppers used for?▼
Small-diameter drains, laterals and house connections. They inflate at 2.5 bar, fit through tight access points, and are the fastest way to isolate small lines for testing or repairs.
What is an Inflatable Pillow Pipe Stopper?▼
A flat, cushion-shaped stopper that folds through small openings - like a manhole or a gap - and then inflates at 0.5-1.0 bar to fill large or non-circular sections. It is the tool for big diameters and irregular profiles where a round plug cannot pass the access.
